VOCATIONAL ENGLISH

Program Objective

The ongoing Vocational English Program at Knowledge Innovations Academy builds practical English skills for the workplace. The program offers sessions for students to develop their confidence and fundamental English skills in an interactive classroom setting. Course work emphasizes those skills necessary for effective oral and written communication. Instruction is interactive, encouraging students to practice English through a variety of activities. Courses focus on academic reading and writing, as well as listening, speaking, and grammar. Students will learn autonomous language learning strategies so that they can continue to set and evaluate their own language learning goals.

Class meets at least two times a week for lecture.

Carry daily conversation
Understand the basics of grammar structure
Use a variety of strategies to comprehend a grammatically complex text
Perform basic research, paraphrase, summarize, and cite sources
Engage in class, focus on instruction/activities, and demonstrate appropriate participation according to culture norms
Be highly self-directed and ask pertinent questions in class and when uncertain about assignments
Use an adequate range of language including more complex forms
Construct and present evidence to support a clear, logical, and complex argument

The English program is 6 months in length (two quarters).

The student will earn approximately 500 clock lecture and lab hours.

Students will receive the Certificate of Completion in English after finishing the basic 6 month program. The certificate testifies that students have completed the basics in English skills.
